- August 26, 2005 I can see the way this young man was going. The picture was jerky and as the man below said, it was probably the media he edited in. You need a good editor like Premiere (pc) or FinalCut Pro (Mac). These are pricey but they do the job well. I have been editing for the last 15 years and I too have had my poorer quality edit jobs. Just don't give up. The subject matter was more than likely way before your time (Assuming you are under 40). World War 2 was a tragedy we had to get into. We stayed out of it until Pearl Harbor. Bush was not mentioned in the peice. The World on Fire song by the Ink Spots over shadowed the speech given by FDR. I would suggest a good sound editor to level the sound out (Normalize it). My Dad worked at Alamed Naval Air Station at the time and he went to Pearl to Assess the damage to the Air Craft for salvage. Gen. McArther also left from Alameda to return to Bataan. They are vague memories to me now. For tight editing, I would suggest watching Jerry Bruckheimers Pearl Harbor (The Attack), and another good one to see for editing is The French Connection, especiall the car chase. Video is not as easy as it looks to a novice, howere, you have to be at it for a while before you get a sense of timing. Good luck in your next efforts and don't let criticism stop you. Use it constructively and go on. - May 6, 2005 While I find some issues with the sound and production of this clip, if indeed this is a beginning work I say pretty good effort... What I do find confusing is the comment in the last few reviews... Did I miss some content regarding GW Bush and the current military situation in this video? ... or is there just a knee-jerk defense from those who realize the only things in common between WWII and Iraq are the bullets, blood and sacrifice of young GIs?... If this video referenced Korea or Viet Nam then the Industrial-military connections with the current conflict would hold up... The economic and industrial stimuli of WWII to US economy was an unintended side effect that several American politicians and industrial sectors have unsucessfully tried to duplicate/extend through contained and controlled conflicts for the last half-century... Of course, the attempts at a sustained military conflict have only created domestic discord, deficits and the disproportionate sacrifices of the lower and middle classes in each of the above mentioned conflicts including the current one... But then AGAIN we only find more convincing evidence for why knowing history (including recent history)is important.... - February 12, 2004 From someone who has just started splicing and dicing... don't let non pro critics make you stop. It gets easier. My first one will prob. get slammed too. - May 29, 2003 I agree with the above, the first scenes are an LCI landing on a French Norman beachtown after D-Day, then lots of Pearl Harbor aftermath footage and then to further confuse the issue, shots from a group of National Guard troops going off somewhere were dropped in on occassion or whim. Then more troops loading on to and off of ships and beachside roads? I hate to think that the new generations idea of WWII were as confused as this. - May 8, 2003 Almost impossible to watch. Sound mixing is like a bunch of clips were made on tape and scattered on the floor and then randomly spliced together regardless of content, sound level, or relevancy. The sound clips were at least from the period, but they didn't amount to anything coherent. Picture quality is bad. The use of .MOV format creating a file only 32mb (for a movie over 9 minutes) is probably to blame.
