Hillary Clinton paid a surprise visit to the Laney campus today accompanied by Mayor Ron Dellums. She spoke to a packed crowd of faculty, administrators, and students from Laney College and the Peralta Community Colleges district. As many were unable to attend due to the short notice and limited space for the event, peralta.TV will be airing the complete speech, October 1, at 5:00, 6:30 and 9:00PM, and October 2, at 4:00AM, and 6:30PM. Prior to her brief speech, Senator Clinton visited a classroom and met briefly with students from the Culinary Arts program at Laney. Her visit to the Peralta Community Colleges coincides with Mayor Dellums’ announcement of his endorsement of Hillary for president. Clinton has named Dellums as the national chair of her campaign’s Urban Policy Committee. Clinton’s speech focused on neighborhood empowerment. She championed Oakland; calling it a model for the nation, she promised to seek Dellums’ wisdom and experience to help guide her leadership and end the war in Iraq.
