The Wizard of Gore is a 1970 splatter film directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. It stars Ray Sager and Judy Cler. It was filmed in Chicago in 1968, but not released until October 23, 1970.
The film is about a magician called Montag the Magnificent who performs a show where he selects female volunteers and appears to put swords, drills, and such through them. They walk away completely unharmed and everyone applauds, but then they show up somewhere else later, dead of the same injuries they sustained in the magic show.
This film was remade in 2006 starring Crispin Glover as Montag the Magnificent.
Montag the Magnificent (Glover) is a master illusionist who performs at underground venues, selecting female volunteers from his rave-like audiences. To their hysteria, it appears he's dismembered their bodies, but his sleigh of hand has fooled them. However, female bodies show up dead from the same wounds performed on stage. Investigators are baffled, and the chase to find the killer begins. Written by Anonymous
