Sleuth is the 1972 film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play Sleuth by British playwright Anthony Shaffer, who wrote the screenplay. Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, it stars Sir Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine.
Sleuth is a 2007 film directed by Kenneth Branagh based on 2005 Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter's screenplay adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play Sleuth, by Anthony Shaffer. It was produced by Jude Law, who also stars in it as Milo Tindle opposite Michael Caine as Andrew Wyke. Caine had starred as Tindle opposite Laurence Olivier's Wyke in the original 1972 film Sleuth. It was mainly marketed as a collaboration between Pinter, Branagh, Law, and Caine, four major names of the British stage and film industry. Though the new film adaptation is termed a "remake", the stars and the reviewers have emphasized that Pinter's "take" on the play differs almost entirely from the original play and film, which he had not seen prior to writing his screenplay.
The Sleuth is a 1925 film featuring Stan Laurel.
Released in the US as a split reel along with the drama Musketeer, The (1911).
Milo Tindle and Andrew Wyke have something in common, Andrew's wife. In an attempt to find a way out of this without costing Andrew a fortune in alimony, he suggests Milo pretend to rob his house and let him claim the insurance on the stolen jewelry. The problem is that they don't really like each other and each cannot avoid the zinger on the other. The plot has many shifts in which the advantage shifts between Milo and Andrew. Written by John Vogel

The lower class Milo is the lover of Andrew's wife, who is used to have a comfortable life, and he intends to marry her. Andrew proposes Milo to steal his jewelry simulating a burglary. Milo would make a fortune selling the jewels to an intermediary; and Andrew would be reimbursed by the insurance company and would not pay alimony. However, the whole situation was part of an evil game. When Milo vanishes, a detective visits Andrew to investigate what really happened that night, when deadly games are disclosed.
