Shirley Mason (6 June, 1900 - 27 July, 1979), was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in 109 films between 1910 and 1929.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York and died in Los Angeles, California.
Shirley Mason was born Leonie Flugrath on June 6, 1900 in Brooklyn, New York. The youngest of three acting sisters, (the others were Edna Flugrath and Viola Mason), Shirley made her debut in 1911's AT THE THRESHOLD OF LIFE at the age of 11. As a child actress, Shirley wasn't in much demand until she grew older. Then she began to take on more roles. Her second film was in VANITY FAIR in 1915. It wasn't until 1917 that the film executives began to take the young actress more seriously as they cast her in thirteen films that year. That year saw Shirley gain the title role in THE AWAKENING OF RUTH. By the time the 1920's rolled around she was making fewer films, but taking on more substantial parts in films such as LOVE'S HARVEST (1920), THE LAMPLIGHTER (1921), and VERY TRULY YOURS (1922). Shirley's final film was in 1929's THE FLYING MARINE whereupon she retired. She died on July 27, 1979.
