Sebastian Cabot (July 6, 1918 - August 22, 1977) was an English film and television actor, best remembered as a gently composed "gentleman's gentleman" in the 1960s situation comedy Family Affair, but his sonorous voice and understated style belied his frequent typecasting as an Englishman trying to make sense of America.
Sebastian Cabot (c. 1484 - 1557, or soon after), originally Sebastiano Caboto, was an Italian explorer, probably born in Venice. Sebastian Cabot told Englishman Richard Eden that he was born in Bristol and carried to Venice at four years of age. However, he also told Gasparo Contarini, the Venetian ambassador at the court of Charles V that he was Venetian, educated in England. Contarini noted it in his diary.
Was a chauffeur to British actor Frank Pettingell before becoming an actor himself.
Worked at one time as a garage mechanic.
Is interred at Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
Father, with Kay, of actress Annette Cabot (born in 1952) and actor Christopher Cabot (born in 1955).
Was cremated.
