Robin Hood is an animated film produced by the Walt Disney Studios, first released in the United States on November 8, 1973. It is the twenty-first animated feature in the Disney animated features canon.
Robin Hood (1922) was the first motion picture ever to make a Hollywood premiere, held at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre on October 18, 1922. The movie's full title, under which it was copyrighted, is Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood, as shown in the illustration at right.
This swashbuckler adventure was based on the legendary tale of the Medieval hero, Robin Hood and was the first production to present many of the elements of the legend that became familiar to movie audiences in later versions, although an earlier treatment had been filmed a decade before in Fort Lee, New Jersey. This movie was one of the most expensive of the 1920s: one set was an entire 12th century village of Nottingham. The story was adapted for the screen by Fairbanks (as "Elton Thomas"), Kenneth Davenport, Edward Knoblock, Allan Dwan and Lotta Woods, and was produced by Fairbanks for his own production company, Douglas Fairbanks Pictures Corporation, and distributed by United Artists, a company owned by Fairbanks, his wife Mary Pickford, Charles Chaplin and D.W. Griffith.
Robin Hood is a 1991 film starring Patrick Bergin and Uma Thurman. In the US the film appeared as a TV movie on the Fox network. Another film using the well-known Robin Hood story was released theatrically the same year. The film, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, was a Hollywood blockbuster with a much bigger budget and high-profile stars such as Kevin Costner.
David Wood stars as Robin Hood, who steals from a group of rich nobles and is hunted by the furious (and slightly overweight) Sheriff of Nottingham. The Sheriff dispatches his men to find Robin Hood, but Robin is able to accumulate a sizable group of "Merry Men" to seek out the infamous Friar Tuck to help them in their rebellion. Yet another version of the classic epic, with enough variation to make it interesting. The story is the same, but some of the characters are quite different from the usual, in particular Uma Thurman's very special maid Marian. The photography is also great, giving the story a somewhat darker tone. Written by Rodrigo Guirado
Amid big-budget medieval pageantry, King Richard goes on the Crusades leaving his brother Prince John as regent, who promptly emerges as a cruel, grasping, treacherous tyrant. Apprised of England's peril by message from his lady-love Marian, the dashing Earl of Huntingdon endangers his life and honor by returning to oppose John, but finds himself and his friends outlawed, and Marian apparently dead. Enter Robin Hood, acrobatic champion of the oppressed, laboring to set things right through swash buckling feats and cliffhanging perils! Written by Rod Crawford
Rich Little plays all the major characters in the retelling of the Robin Hood story. As in his version of A Christmas Carol, Little plays each character through a classic hollywood personality. Groucho Marx is Robin, Carol Channing is Maid Marion, Humphrey Bogart is Prince John, John Wayne is Little John, and Laurel & Hardy are the Sheriffs of Nottingham. Written by Eric Ryan
Retelling of the Robin Hood legend with animals for the characters. Robin Hood is an outlaw who starts to form a gang in Sherwood Forest to fight the injustices of the Sheriff of Nottingham, who levies unpayable taxes upon the people. Written by Tim Pickett
