Nana Visitor (born July 26, 1957) is an American actress, famous for playing Major (later Colonel) Kira Nerys in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) from 1993 to 1999.
Nana is the daughter of dancers, choreographer Robert Tucker (I) and ballet teacher Nenette Charisse
On October 28 1995, she received the Best Supporting Actress in a Genre Television Series honor from the the Sci-Fi Universe Readers' Choice Universe awards.
Son, Django El Tahir El Siddig, born 16 September 1996, was named for Django Reinhardt, a jazz musician. DS9 co-star Alexander Siddig is Django Siddig's father.

Niece, by marriage, of actress-dancer Cyd Charisse.
She was accepted at Princeton but kept deferring and didn't go.
Sister of actor Ian Tucker (I) and actress Zan Charisse.
Gave birth to her son, Django El Tahir El Siddig, during the filming of the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993) episode "Let He Who Is Without Sin...". Not surprisingly, she did not appear in that episode.

Admitted claustrophobic. Had a hard time filming the DS9 episode "Second Skin" in which her character, Kira Nerys, appeared as a Cardassian because of the full rubber makeup she had to wear.
