Gidi Gov (Hebrew: גידי גוב) born in August 4th, 1950, is an influential Israeli singer, entertainer and actor of Israeli cinema and television.
Talented singer and wonderful serious and comic actor. Gideon Gov was born in Rehovot, and received the nickname "Gidi", by which he has been ever since known to the public. Gidi's father died when he was very young, which made his mother move from place to place, so he lived in different places in Israel. He wanted to go into a combat unit in the Israeli army but because of his asthma he eventually got into the Israeli army singing troupe, of the "Nahal" unit, where he did a lot of memoribal prefomances with many other famous to be Israeli actors and singers. By the year of 1973 a number of his friends from the "Nahal Band" (famous Israeli musicians such as Dani Sanderson, Efraim Shamir and Yoni Rechter) established the legendary Israeli rock band "Kaveret" (meaning "beehive" in Hebrew) that became one of the most popular Israeli bands in the 1970's. Later he formed a band called "Gazoz" (meaning "soft drink" in Hebrew) which only lasted two albums, but which was a very popular and remembered group.
In addition to his music career, Gov acted in Israeli motion pictures such as "Ha-Lehaka" (The Band) which describes life in the military band One notable film Gidi was in was "The Troupe" (1977), "Dizengoff 99" and more. In the years [1979-1993] he was co-host of the successful comedy show Zehu Ze! ("That's it!")which included famous israeli comedians such as Monny Moshonov and Shlomo Bar-Abba.
At the start of the 1980s he participated in a number of Israeli children music festivals.
In 1994 he left "Zehu Zeh" (Though kept in good contact with his fellow "Zehu Zeh" friends) for his own host show called "Lilah Gov".
With the airing of Israel's first commercial TV channel, Channel 2, Gov became the host of a successful night talk and variety show named "Laila Gov", a paraphrase of 'Laila Tov', meaning 'Good night'. In 1995 the TV broadcasters wanted to take "Lilah Gov" off the air, but had to cancel that Idea, due to a petition signed by several thousand protesting fans.
He is married to playwright Anat Gov.
