"The First Time" is the eighth track from U2's 1993 album, Zooropa. It was never released as a single, although it features on the soundtrack to the 2000 The Million Dollar Hotel movie, and on the greatest hits album, The Best of 1990-2000. Bono says it is a version of the Biblical Prodigal Son who upon being received back into his father's home, decided he didn't like it and left again.
The song was never played live in its entirety until 2005, during the Vertigo Tour (it was snippeted several times in between "Bad" and "Bullet the Blue Sky" during the Zooropa leg of the Zoo TV Tour).

"First Time" is singer Robin Beck's first significant chart hit, released in 1988. It was originally recorded for a Coca-Cola commercial the same year and subsequently released as a single. The single topped the UK singles chart for one week in November and also topped the chart in Germany a year later. It remains her signature song.
In 2006, Sunblock, an electronic music group from Sweden recorded a cover of the song with Robin Beck for their second single and it became their second Top 10 hit, charting at #9 on the UK Singles Chart (see 2006 in British music).
