Doon Mackichan (born 1962 in Surrey) is an English comedienne. Aged 9, she moved with her family to Upper Largo, Fife. She is probably best known as one of the writers and stars of the Channel 4 comedy series Smack the Pony; prior to this she appeared in Chris Morris's BBC news spoof series The Day Today (in which she played a number of roles including business news reporter Collatallie Sisters); in Morris's controversial Channel 4 series Brass Eye; and in the sitcom Beast. She also regularly appeared in Knowing Me, Knowing You... with Alan Partridge and The Mary Whitehouse Experience. Mackichan also swam the English Channel in 1998.
She was a contestant in the 2003 BBC charity singing contest, Comic Relief does Fame Academy, in which she came fourth. She also had a part in the 1998 movie, The Borrowers, in which she played the part of Victoria Lender, and the 1995 comedy Glam Metal Detectives.
She also appeared in the second series of the BBC comedy Bedtime, and also teamed up with her former Smack the Pony co-stars in the film Gladiatress.
More recently, she has narrated several TV series, including The Honey Trap and Bank of Mum and Dad. She also portrayed Cherie Blair in the Channel 4 satirical drama, A Very Social Secretary. She appeared in Channel 4 sitcom Nathan Barley as the "preposterous voice" of a thinly-veiled Annie Lennox parody.
In addition to her TV comedy appearances, she has made a contribution to radio comedy with her own BBC show, Doon Your Way.
Recently revealed on an episode of the BBC quiz show QI - Doon Mackichan swam the English Channel in 1998. She was a member of a six-man relay team.
Doon has recently been fronting a TV ad campaign for Hallmark in the UK.
Doon is married to the actor Anthony Barclay; less recognisable than his wife, his biggest role was in Common as Muck. They have two children, daughter India and son Louis.
