Charles in Charge is an American sitcom series broadcast on CBS which starred Scott Baio as Charles, a 19-year-old college student working as a live-in babysitter in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

It was first broadcast from October 3, 1984 until July 24, 1985, and then syndicated from January 3, 1987 until December 8, 1990. 126 original episodes were aired in total. It was produced by Scholastic Productions and Universal Television.

Charles first worked for the Pembroke family: wife Jill, husband Stan, and their three children Lila; Douglas; and Jason. When the show ended its run on CBS, and entered syndication in early 1987, the story was explained so that the Pembrokes moved away, and the Powells moved into their house, allowing Charles to live downstairs yet again. This time, the family consisted of grandfather Walter, mother Ellen (whose husband was in the military and could only visit his family sporadically), and her three kids Jamie, Sarah, and Adam.

Charles, a college student, moves in with the Powell family as the housekeeper, baby-sitter, and friend to the children. Along with his best friend, Buddy, Charles attempts to manage his life, especially college and girls, as well as tend to the family. Written by David Landers

Charles, a college student, moves in with the Pembroke family. He doesn't pay rent in exchange for taking care of their children and the house. The Pembrokes' work (due to low ratings) transfered them to another city. The Powells then move in. The family consists of a mother, two daughters, a son, and a retired military grandfather. If I am not mistaken, the father is in the military and only shows up every once in a while. Charles was attached to the Pembrokes and did not want to stay on in the house to take care of the Powells. But alas, he formed a connection with the family and stayed. For the next four years, Charles takes care of the children and the house, becoming in essence a part of the family. At the same time, the audience witnesses his family problems with his elvis obsessed mother, and the rigors of being a college student with his odd party obsessed best friend Buddy.
