Robert Emerson "Bob" Clampett (May 8 1913-May 4 1984) was an American animator, producer, director, and puppeteer best known for his work on the Looney Tunes series of cartoons from Warner Bros. and the television shows Time for Beany, and Beany and Cecil.
The Bob Clampett Show was an animation anthology television program produced by Cartoon Network, it featured animated theatrical shorts from the Warner Bros. library that were animated or directed by Bob Clampett as well as a selection of shorts from the Beany and Cecil animated television series. It originally aired on Cartoon Network and was later added to Adult Swim programming block due to the films being shown uncut, but only aired for a short time. Twenty-six episodes were made in all.
This was the only animated anthology show on Cartoon Network that aired uncut versions of Clampett cartoons that were typically censored on CN and cartoons that hardly (if ever) received airtime (such as Russian Rhapsody and Bacall To Arms). However, some cartoons were shown by Turner that were dubbed, colorized, or got their opening titles cut.
Father of Bobby Clampett, Ruth Clampett and Cheri Clampett.
Animator John Kricfalusi notes Bob Clampett as one of his strongest influences.
An avid boater, he once rescued three men from a boating accident.
Based the original drawings of Tweety on his own baby pictures.
While most other Bugs Bunny cartoons portrayed Bugs as the generally clever and collected character who always wins, Clampett's cartoons sometimes portrayed Bugs as being on the losing end of things (e.g. Falling Hare (1943), Tortoise Wins by a Hare (1943)).
