10.5: Apocalypse is a 2006 television miniseries written, directed, and produced by John Lafia. A sequel to 2004's 10.5, the film follows a series of catastrophic seismic disasters (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, and sinkholes). Critical reaction was similar to that of its predecessor, with much criticism for its scientific basis and clichéd plot and character development.
The miniseries was filmed entirely in the Montreal area, where many of the scenes can easily be linked to areas in the outskirts of the city. The Sun Valley scene was filmed at the Mont Tremblant Resort, a popular skiing resort north of the city. All of the news reporters that appeared on TV in the film are all local news reporters for various news stations in Montreal. The visual effects company that created the visual effects for the movie is called "Hybride", which is based in Piedmont, Quebec, 40 minutes north of Montreal.
One of the places destroyed was Las Vegas, by a massive sinkhole. Several casinos were destroyed including the Bellagio. The survivors in one of the casinos worked together to reach the top and get rescued. Some survivors were, Dr. Hill, Jenna, Marie, Anne, Julie, Joe and Jesse. The plot of the movie centers around the occurrence of a major earthquake in Los Angeles which triggered ancient fault lines (one of which may by the New Madrid Seismic Zone) throughout the entire continent eventually resulting in an earthquake which created a split in the midwest, starting in South Dakota, going through the entire continent of North America, and ending in the Gulf of Mexico, nearly destroying the nuclear plant in Red Plains; thereby splitting the United States and Canada in half.
Another massive 10.5 quake tears apart the West Coast, threatening to turn the American landscape into a hellish wasteland. Seismologist Samantha Hill (Emmy® winner Kim Delaney, TV's CSI: Miami) sees an even greater threat: an ever-widening fault line that's heading straight for the country's two largest nuclear reactors. If a meltdown occurs, millions will die. Samantha and the American president (Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Beau Bridges, TV's Stargate SG-1) agree only one man can help them-the scientist who predicted this terrifying natural disaster years before-Samantha's own father, Dr. Earl Hill (Golden Globe® nominee Frank Langella, Good Night, and Good Luck.), now counted as a possible casualty of a massive Las Vegas quake. Together with a crack rescue team including Brad (Dean Cain, Mayday) and Will (Oliver Hudson, The Out-of-Towners), Samantha must find her father and stop the fault from slicing uncontrollably toward millions of people and the ultimate nuclear apocalypse. Following the catastrophic earthquake that struck U.S., a second quake threatens the security of the continent. U.S. President Paul Hollister (Bridges) calls on one of the nation's top seismologists, Dr. Samantha Hill (Delaney), to interpret the event. Written by IMDb Editors
