The China Open (formerly the Beijing Salem Open) is a professional tennis tournament in Beijing, China. It was first held in 1993. In 1998 it was removed from the tour calender but was reinstated in 2004. Since 2005 it has been included in the schedule of both the ATP Tour and the WTA Tour. The 2007 event will take place from September 17 to September 23.
Its maiden tournament was held in the same year as the first Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships, as the ATP opened a series of new tournaments in Asia.
In 2006, it was the first tournament outside the USA to utilise the Hawk-Eye system.
Michael Chang is the only man to have won the singles competition more than once, holding the record for both total and consecutive wins with three titles.
